Fran was the first female hired as a puppeteer on Sesame Street. During her long career with the show this Emmy Award winning performer has performed the characters of Prairie Dawn, Zoe, Little Bird, Polly Darton, Mrs. Crustworthy, Elmo’s mom, Scottish Mary of ‘Mary had a Little Lamb’, Bo Peep, Roxy Marie, the Countess and many others. In the U.S. she performs Kami, an HIV-positive, 5 yr. old who appears on the South African co-production called Takalani Sesame.
Her other work with the Muppets include Saturday Night Live (Vahz), The Muppet Show, The Jim Henson Hour (Vicki and other characters), Dog City (Colleen), The Adventures of Elmo in Grouchland, Cinderelmo, Elmopalooza with Jon Stewart, Play With Me Sesame, Sesame Beginnings, many home videos including Zoe's Dance Moves with Paula Abdul and numerous CD’s and audiotapes. She also worked as a puppeteer on the films Men in Black and The Producers.
